Olympic Airspace cleared to Aviate | Navigate | Communicate with Ade Adepitan.

On SATURDAY 12th MAY 2012 Cranfield Flying School (CFS) will be working with Freedom in the Air (FITA) in giving a flying lesson to Paralympian Ade Adepitan. FITA’s founder and co-chairman first met Ade during a wheelchair basketball training session with the Raiders team in West London. Both men have a deep understanding of how important voluntary organisations are in the world today.

In 1976 when Ade was three years old. His parents made the brave decision to leave their family in Nigeria, and move to the UK. They settled in Plaistow East London. Moving to the UK was one of the most important events in Ade Adepitan’s life. He was taught how to walk using iron calipers, which he wore until the age of 17. Despite having Polio, Ade loved playing football with his school friends. He spent his early years dreaming of playing football for England. Having survived polio as a youngster, Ade has gone on to compete as a wheelchair basketball player on an international level and has a wealth of TV presenting experience.

EASA licences – CAA publishes new guidance

easa-approv-Ethiopian

With pilot licensing due to be taken over by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in a matter of weeks, the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has now published a guide to the coming changes. The guide – available for download at www.caa.co.uk/eupilotlicensing – provides an overview of the effects of the changes together with the key dates to be aware of. The CAA is strongly recommending all qualified and trainee pilots take the time to read the guide at the earliest opportunity.

The CAA will also be distributing hard copies of the guide to flying clubs and training organisations and handing them out at events over the summer. You may read this document when you next come to our school if you have yet to read it online.

The introduction of EASA licences will see the biggest change in pilot licensing since the introduction of JAR licences twelve years ago. The process begins on 8 April 2012, and the CAA will begin issuing new EASA licences from 1 July 2012.

For all information relating to the switch to EASA licences go to www.caa.co.uk/eupilotlicensing.
