The Private Pilot Licence for Helicopters, or PPL(H), entitles you to fly a helicopter for pleasure and is the first step towards a commercial licence. Pilot training at Cranfield Flying School is conducted in our Schweizer 300CBi. If you're new to helicopters we recommend you first book an Introductory Trial Lesson for a first-hand experience.
The Schweizer 300CBi is one of two preferred helicopters for pilot training (the other being the Robinson R22) and is proven to be exceptionally safe. It has a number of advantages over the R22 including a higher seat weight limit permitting us to fly with larger or taller students who may struggle to comfortably fit in smaller aircraft such as the R22. Another huge benefit offered by the 300CBi is that it allows students exposure to fully articulated rotor systems early in their training.
In order to gain your European JAR PPL(H) Licence you will need to complete a minimum of 45 hours flight instruction, at least 10 of which must be pilot-in-command. You will also need to pass a number of examinations.
