Digital Tower - Visit and Barbecue.
Saturday 20th July
The digital tower visit and Barbecue went off really well on Saturday. We hosted about 40 people for morning coffee, mostly from PPLIR Europe, Cranfield Airport Staff and CFS students and instructors, in the school. The visit was wonderfully orchestrated by Rob Abbott, the airport director who did the presentations in the AIRC and Sophie Ward the head of ATC at Cranfield, who presented the digital tower. They were both ably assisted by the airport staf who managed to keep everyone together during the different visits. Around 10 aircraft arrived from PPL/IR somewhat lower than planned because of the weather, but those that did make it in came in and left safely.
The visit was completed by a lunchtime barbecue on the grass outside the old tower, prepared by the chefs of Mitchell Hall who managed to cook and stop the Gazebo from blowing away at the seme time. We had good feedback from all who visited about the visit and what is happening now on the Cranfield University site. It bodes well for the future of aviaition in the UK.
