About

About the Course…

The Light Aircraft Pilot Licence (LAPL) issued by the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) offers a streamlined pathway for individuals looking to obtain a LAPL, enabling them to pilot light aircraft for recreational purposes and personal travel. Spanning approximately 3-6 months, the LAPL course combines rigorous theoretical instruction with practical flight training, tailored to equip students with essential aviation knowledge and hands-on flying skills.

The theoretical curriculum covers fundamental subjects such as air law, navigation, meteorology, aircraft general knowledge, and human factors, ensuring a solid foundation in aviation theory relevant to operating light aircraft.

Practical flight training includes a minimum of 30 hours, comprising dual instruction with certified flight instructors and solo flight time to build confidence and proficiency in handling aircraft independently. Students train on single-engine piston (SEP) aircraft, mastering maneuvers and procedures crucial for LAPL certification.

This course is the cheaper alternative to the Private Pilots Licence. With 15 less required hours and no requirement for a Class 2 medical, this course is ideal for aviators who would like to fly privately as a hobby.

Whether you aim to obtain a private pilot licence for recreational flying or desire a commercial pilot license for a career in aviation, our expert instructors will guide you through the necessary flight hours and theoretical knowledge required to achieve your goals.

Aspiring pilots and aviation enthusiasts alike are welcome to experience the excellence of our aviation academy.

Practical Training

Our practical training for the LAPL is conducted in the reliable and well-regarded Piper PA28 Warriors. This aircraft is ideal for training due to its robust design, forgiving flight characteristics, and excellent handling. Throughout your training, you will gain hands-on experience in various flight maneuvers, navigation exercises, and emergency procedures, all under the guidance of our experienced instructors.

Ground Exams

There are 9 exams in total, including:

Air Law, Operation Procedures, Human Performance, Meteorology, Navigation, Flight Planning & Performance, Aircraft General Knowledge, Principles of Flight and Communications.

Solo Flying

This includes 6 hours of supervised solo flight time, including at least 3 hours of solo cross-country flight time with at least 1 cross country flight of at least 270 km (150 NM) that includes full stop landings at 2 aerodromes different from the departure aerodrome.

Skills Test

At the end of your training, you will need to take a skill test with an examiner in the relevant aircraft type to demonstrate that you can competently carry out the procedures and manoeuvres that you have been taught, while acting as pilot in command (PIC).
